The hardcore West Virginia angler now has a pending International Game Fish Association world record for a striped bass he caught and released off Cape Charles while fishing with Sho-Nuf Sportfishing captain Clinton Lessard.

The fish measured 122 centimeters (48.03 inches) long — five centimeters longer than the current record — and good enough to earn him a release award from the state-sponsored Virginia Saltwater Fishing Tournament. Foster has been focused in his efforts to catch a fish that likely will earn him his first world record.

“I’ve most definitely been targeting this record,” said Foster, who owns a disc jockey and entertainment company in Saint Albans, just outside of Charleston. “I’ve put a lot of time and effort into this fish.”
