The the Airgunners Grand Slam
Like so many hunters in North America, I spend a lot of time out in the field after predators.
Unlike the vast majority, I prefer to go after them with airguns rather than high power center fires. There are practical reasons, airguns can be used in areas where firearms can’t; because they are quieter, lower power, or can legally be discharged where a firearm can not. But for me, the primary reason is the challenge….. I use airguns simply because it makes the sport more exciting and greatly increases the sense of accomplishment when I put fur in the truck. Some years ago I decided to set myself a goal of taking a group of predators with my Airgun, and using the nomenclature of baseball and turkey hunting, termed this collection the grand slam. My predator grand slam consists of coyote, bobcat, fox, and raccoon. read more A post Jim Chapman on September 14, 2012 source of post
Why these animals? All are obviously predators, and most can be legally taken with airguns in massachusetts :
Will a airgun take out a Eastern coyote ? I’m not sure but it’s a big dog unlike its western counterpart but if you was to do the air gunners slam the four game animals are listed below for Massachusetts :
- Raccoon – Oct. 1, 2020 – Jan. 30, 2021
- coyote – Oct. 17, 2020 – Mar. 8, 2021
- Fox – Nov. 2, 2020 – Feb. 27, 2021
- Bobcat – Dec. 21, 2020 – March 8, 2021
In massachusetts you can use airguns to hunt the state mandates what you can use or what caliber to use deer ,bear, turkey are some examples please see this post for a better understanding
As far as i can see all four slam game animals you can legally hunt with a airgun in massachusetts with that said i wouldn’t use a 177 pellet 22 and up for better success!!
i might try this slam but i cant hunt bobcat in my zone but seems very interesting tho .
