2020 September preliminary harvest report

For the September bear hunting season, licensed hunters reported a harvest of 232 bears—a new record. The previous record was 203 bears in 2014. Bear harvest totals in Massachusetts tend to be cyclical, with high harvest years following lower years. The last few September seasons were relatively low, so the spike in harvest is not surprising. The additional interest in hunting and outdoor activities related to COVID-19 likely also added to the high harvest. from the mass.gov
