If you Encounter a aggressive coyote

If you encounter a coyote that appears rabid or aggressive, remain calm, do not run, make yourself look large, and try to deter it with loud noises or throwing objects. If the coyote breaks the skin, wash the wound thoroughly with soap and water and seek immediate medical attention and contact local authorities

  • Stay Calm and Don’t Run:Panicking or running might make the coyote perceive you as prey, increasing the likelihood of an attack.
  • Make Yourself Look Large:Wave your arms, stand tall, and make yourself appear bigger than you are.
  • Intimidation:
  • Yell, stomp your feet, and make loud noises to try and scare the coyote away.
  • Throw Objects (If Necessary):
  • If the coyote continues to approach, throw rocks, sticks, or anything available to deter it.
  • Maintain Eye Contact:Direct eye contact can also be a way to assert dominance and deter the coyote.
  • Back Away Slowly:Once the coyote has retreated, back away slowly and calmly, avoiding direct eye contact.
  • Report Aggressive Behavior:If the coyote exhibits aggressive behavior (e.g., stalking, chasing, growling), report it to local animal control or law enforcement.
